A few end of the season announcements...

posted Feb 21, 2017, 8:36 AM by Sid Voss

✔️ Coach Voss lent his classic poles to one of our skiers.  If you have them, please email sidvoss@hopkinsnordic.com. Also, someone on the team has his Craft lobster mitts...would like to have them back.  Thanks!

✔️ Still have your uniform?  Bring it to the banquet, or
At HHS, put in a Ziplock bag with your name and drop it at the Athletic Office.
At West, put in a Ziplock bag with your name and give it to Jean Bury in the office.
At North, put in a Ziplock bag with your name and give to Deb Herman by the office.

✔️ Summer Wax your skis. You should put a coat of wax on your skis at the end of the season.  This will protect your bases and keep the bases from drying out.  Just drip some red or yellow wax on the bottom, make a couple of passes with the iron, and that's it.  Do not scrape until next winter.  There is red and yellow wax in the wax room.

✔️ Please take your bags, skis, and poles home from the wax room by the end of the week.  If you have rental skis in the wax room, Coach Voss will take them...don't forget to take home your poles.

✔️ If you have rental skis, you can bring them to return to Coach Voss at banquet.  Otherwise, he will be in touch with you about returning them.

Announcements
  • Believe it our not, we are getting closed to the end of the season!  Our last race of the season for JV 1 & 2 is Thursday, February 2, and our Section Meet is Wednesday, February 8. The Section Meet is for our top 7 boy and top 7 girl skiers. From the Section Meet, the top two boy teams and the top two girls teams, along with individual qualifiers, go to the State Meet at Giants Ridge on February 16.
  • We will continue to schedule practices and ski for everyone through the middle of February, as long as we can get times at Three Rivers or have enough snow to ski at school and in the "backyard."
Schedule for the Week

Monday, January 30
We have a slot on the man-made snow at Hyland, but we might have a scheduling problem with the bus.  So come prepared to ski, but know the plan might change!   Bus leaves HHS at 3:10 and will return by 5:00.

JV 1 & 2:
If we are at Hyland, we are going to start on a circular loop for everyone so we can work on uphill V 1, as well as flat V 2 for those ready to V 2.  After the circular loop, ski on your own.

If we don't have a bus, we will be at school.  Some snow in the forecast, but probably won't be enough to ski on the field.  We will wax skis for our race Thursday and have an indoor workout.

Varsity:
Ride the bus or go on your own to either Wirth or Hyland.  Easy recovery ski, around 45 minutes.

Tuesday, January 31
We have time at French.  We shouldn't have a scheduling problem with the bus! Bus leaves HHS at 3:10 and will return by 5:00.

JV 1 & 2:
We will continue work on V 1, and on V 2 for those ready.

Varsity:
Ride the bus to French, workout will be announced.

Wednesday, February 1

JV 1 & 2:
We will wax skis for our race Thursday and have an indoor workout.

Varsity:
At Wirth.
3x8 min L3 with 1 minute L5 on an uphill w/in each interval. Total ski time 1.5 hrs including warmup and cool down. During the intervals, you can stay together as a group but encourage each other to push the pace. Group skiing. This workout is meant to simulate a race by building speed and endurance.

Thursday, February 2

JV 1 & 2:
JV Champs at Elm Creek.  This is a fun race and the Varsity will be there to cheer you on.  See the link for details and signup.

Friday, February 3 & Saturday, February 4
No workouts for team, except for section team skiers.  Enjoy Loppet activities or ski on you own at Three Rivers.  Section team skiers will get the workout in a Remind message.
