Details & Signup for Thursday 1/21, Varsity/JV1 Race @ 2pm
I will excuse you from any classes you'll miss. Wear your uniform to the race and DON'T FORGET YOUR BIB!!! The race is at Baker National Golf Course (2935 Parkview Dr, Hamel, MN 55340). Get to Baker by 1:15pm, races start at 2pm. You can't set up inside and need to remain outside unless using the bathroom. Wear a mask at all times while not racing. **NEW COVID MASK RULE: For races, MSHSL will allow skiers to race without a mask. Skiers still need to line up at the start with a mask on, then can pull it down once the race starts. Skiers need to put a mask back on right after finishing. A Buff or neck gaiter works really well for this. Wednesday:
Thursday: Please arrive at Baker at 1:15pm. See coaches to brush out your skis, find out your wave assignment and warmup for 20-30 minutes. Race starts at 2pm and you'll be in mass wave starts. Please be at the start area at 1:50. There will be 2 boys waves and 2 girls waves for each varsity and JV1 race. Each with up to 7 skiers from each school. The course will be the same as last years conference race and will be marked. A map with the course highlighted in green is below. (Not the Evergreen Trail). You can use the Island trail as a cool down loop. |
Week of Jan. 18th- Schedule & Updates
Greetings! See below for the full schedule. The following are a few announcements and updates.
SCHEDULE - This week's Three Rivers Schedule is booked pretty full with conference races, hence the slightly less than ideal locations and times. But at least we still have snow and can ski! Monday: Happy MLK Day. We won't be having team practice today because Three Rivers didn't schedule any team practices due to the holiday. Feel free to ski on your own at any Three Rivers Park Tuesday: Team practice at Baker National Golf Course@ 3:30-4:45pm (Address: 2935 Parkview Dr, Hamel, MN 55340) Wednesday: French Park 5:15-6:30pm, for skiing under the lights!
Thursday:
Friday: Team practice at Baker National Golf Course@ 3:30-4:45pm (Address: 2935 Parkview Dr, Hamel, MN 55340)
Saturday/Sunday: Plan to ski on your own |
Practice Updates - Fri. 1/15 & Mon. 1/18
Well sadly the snow we were hoping for has come in the form of slush. At least it'll all freeze again after this weekend and conditions will hopefully be better next week. See below for some updates. Three Rivers passes will be handed out next week. You can still ski on your own at Three Rivers Parks, just have a student id ready and say you're with Hopkins Nordic, if anyone asks. I will be posting next week's full schedule this weekend, but here's some updates as of now. Friday 1/15: No team practice today due to trail conditions. Skiing will be wet and slow on natural-snow today until they freeze up again. If you want, you can ski on your own at any of the man-made snow trails like Hyland or Elm Creek, which should be holding up better. Varsity or those with passes to Theo Wirth can ski there. We recommend skate skiing today as classic would be tough without Klister. Saturday 1/16: Varsity skiers check the training schedule. Coach Ditty will be putting a time out there where he'll be at Wirth with stuff to possibly classic ski. Bring skate skis/boots too, just in case. Monday 1/18: No team practice due to MLK Holiday. Three Rivers is not scheduling any team practices this day. Skiers are welcome to ski on their own at any park. Tuesday 1/19: We are going to cancel the JV2 race to give those skiers a little more time and experience before racing. All team practice will be at Baker National Golf Course from 3-5pm. More to come! |
JV 1 & 2 Practice Canceled for Thursday 1/14
Due to the conditions, we are canceling our workout/practice for today. If you are able, stop by today to get your uniform and bib at Lindbergh between 3:15 and 4:15. If you are not able to stop by today, email Coach Voss and he will grab you a uniform and your bib and bring it to practice Friday and Monday. Please send your name, height, and approximate weight. Varsity Wed. Practice & 1/14 Time Trial Details
Here are details for the Thursday 1/14 time trial. Please let coach G know TODAY if you won't be participating. I will excuse you from any classes you'll miss. DON'T FORGET YOUR BIB!!! The time trial is at Baker Park, go to the golf chalet parking lot. You can't set up inside and need to remain outside unless using the bathroom. Wear a mask at all times. Wednesday: Varsity has option of practicing at Theo Wirth at 3:30pm. Coach G will have wax to put on your skis after practice. Let it dry overnight and we'll brush out skis tomorrow at the time trail before you warm up. If you can't make it to Wirth, Coach Voss will have wax too at French Park. Thursday: Please arrive at Baker at 1:15pm. See coaches to brush out your skis and warmup for 20-30 minutes. Race starts at 2pm and you'll be in mass wave starts. Please be at the start area at 1:50. There will be 2 boys waves and 2 girls waves each with up to 7 skiers from each school. The course will be the same as last years conference race and will be marked. Updates - 12/15/2020
1. Our Nordic Chipotle Fundraiser is tonight! 4-8pm @ Main St. Chipotle in Hopkins. Use code ATETGB8 before checkout in ‘promo’ field to represent and help the Hopkins Nordic ski team! 2. Three Rivers Ski Pass Update: I have heard back from Three Rivers and they are still working out a way to get a discount code set up for use to buy passes before the season begins. THE GOOD NEWS is that Hopkins Nordic skiers can still ski at Three Rivers Parks without a pass until they get it figured out! You'll just need your student ID. More info to come as I have it. 3. If you need wax: Pioneer Midwest has some good wax packages for glide wax for you to use before the season starts and we can get wax to skiers. If you have a waxing iron, look for any SWIX, Rex or START wax. If you don't have an iron, there are some good liquid waxes out there, you'll just need a brush. Again, Pioneer Midwest has some packages for this. We'd suggest Rex Blue liquid or Rex G21 liquid. Click here for Pioneer Midwest's wax selections. Gear West is also a good resource and can help direct you to appropriate wax. |
