State Meet Updates

posted Mar 8, 2021, 12:31 PM by Aaron Giannobile   [ updated Mar 10, 2021, 5:19 AM ]

Greetings, there are some important updates on the state meet that I just learned of today you need to be aware of and some action items as well. We have a booster meeting tonight at 8pm and I can try to answer your questions there, along with our other agenda items. Let me know if you need that meeting info and I can email it to you privately.

2. MSHSL Nordic Ski Hoodies:  Order at   www.mshsl.org/2021-winter-tournament-apparel

3. The State Meet will be streamed online by SchoolSpace Media at  www.prepspotlight.tv  and produced by Rock Ridge Public Schools.  Price will be $9.99.

***Update (3/10/21)*** The course will now just be the classic course for both skate and classic races. The second race may be delayed by 5-10 minutes to allow for skiers to clear the course.

Girls races will be on Thursday and Boys on Friday
Races are at: 1pm Classic Race. 2:20pm Skate Race.

5. As of now, each skier is only allowed one spectator, period. These are MSHSL rules and have already made people upset and I completely understand. Like everything else, this may change and hopefully it does. But as of now we have to stick with one. So that also unfortunately means that other skiers can't come up and watch and the girls can't stay to watch the boys or vice versa.

6. Skiing on Wednesday and warmup before the race: There is some skiing on the Bronze Trail and on Northern Lights, but it sounds like conditions are not good. The warmup area before the race is just going to be around the base of the ski hill.

I will let you know updates as I hear them!

Week of March 8th: Announcements & Wrap Up

posted Mar 7, 2021, 5:13 PM by Aaron Giannobile   [ updated Mar 7, 2021, 5:19 PM ]

And just like that, the snow is melting and it's going to be 70 degrees this week. I just want to thank everyone for a great season in a weird year. Congrats to all of our skiers who participated and came out for the team this week, we hope to see you all again next year.

Just a couple of wrap-up announcements:
  • If you still have equipment to turn in please bring that to school this week.
    • Uniforms and bibs can be dropped off in the Lindbergh activities office, just make sure it's in a bag with your name on it.
    • If you have any skis or poles to return, coaches will be in the wax room on Tuesday after school and you can drop off things then, even bibs and uniforms too.
  • Stay tuned for a video featuring our senior captains speeches and a video recapping the season sometime next week.
2021-2022 Captains

On Thursday we had a team party in lieu of an end-of-season banquet. Thank you to the parents who helped organize the event. At the party, we announce next season's captains. We are happy to announce our captains next season will be Elsa Bergman, Lauren Munger, Emma Coen-Pesch, John Struyk, Simon White and Seth Kristal!

State Meet Qualifiers

Congratulations to our girls section team (Sydney Drevlow, Elsa Bergman, Laci Provenzano, Lauren Munger, Audrey Urbanowicz, Ani Palm and Emma Coen-Pesch) and to Simon White for qualifying for the State Meet set to happen this Thursday and Friday at Giant's Ridge.

WAXING:

Skiers racing at State please drop off your clean skis in the wax room by Tuesday at 3pm. Make sure your name is on them.

Practice Schedule:

We'll continue practice this week for our state meet qualifiers. We also invite the other skiers on the varsity team to participate if you want to attend. It's going to be VERY warm this week, so practice times will be in the morning. Stay tuned to Remind for updates.

All we have set for now is practice on Monday morning at 8am at Theo Wirth. Click here for the workout plan for the week which has other details.

Week of Feb. 8 - Race Signup, Schedule & Updates

posted Feb 7, 2021, 8:36 AM by Aaron Giannobile   [ updated Feb 9, 2021, 7:00 AM ]

It's going to be cold this week! We'll evaluate the weather all week and make decisions about having practice or not. Stay tuned to Remind for updates.

Just a note on league rules about cold weather practice:
  • Races get cancelled if the air temp is below -4F, this may impact Thursday's race. There is no real wind chill limit for races but past precedent has set it somewhere below -30F.
  • For practices, the cutoff is an air temp below -18F. Again, no real set rule regarding wind chill but somewhere below -35F.
Again these are the rules but we may change or cancel practice even if temps don't get that low. -18F is very cold!

The following are a few announcements and updates.
  • Please remember to pay your Booster Fees for the year! The boosters help pay for coaches, wax, and new skis to rent out. Pay online here.
  • See Coach Voss this week if you haven't received your Three Rivers ski passes.
  • Please remember to keep filling out the daily attendance for each day before practice. The forms are below:

Classic Skis Rental

posted Jan 20, 2021, 6:14 PM by Sid Voss   [ updated Jan 20, 2021, 6:26 PM ]

We have classic skis available for rental, for $25 per season. We will also provide classic poles.  You will need to have your own  boots and a ski bag.

Our priority is to provide classic skis to second and third year skiers.  Other skiers may apply, and we may be able to provide you rental classic skis, depending on the demand.

A note about ski boots:  Like skate skis, there are NNN/ProLink or SNS bindings.  The boots are different for classic and skate, unless you have combi boots, which work for both skate and classic. (We do have a few pairs of combi boots available in larger sizes...US size 9-11.  Let Coach Voss know if you would like to try a on a pair— sid@hopkinsnordic.org)

After you receive your skis, please pay the rental fee online (http://store.hopkinsnordic.com).

To apply for Classic Skis, please complete the online form below:
