Announcements & Schedule for Week of January 14th

Our only race this week is set for Friday night, the High School Rennet. It's a fun race under the lights with 450 skiers from across the metro/state.

I had mentioned to some skiers already but a new Minnesota Youth Ski League (MYSL) has formed based out of Glen Lake Golf Course and serving the Hopkins/Minnetonka communities. They are looking for 8-10 volunteers each Sunday through the end of February to help teach elementary-aged skiers how to classic ski. I would love for Hopkins skiers to be a part of this. So we are looking for anyone grades 9-12 to volunteer Sunday's from around 1-3pm. Until we get snow, those practices will not be held at Glen Lake so location (and possibly time of day) will be TBD each week. Please see Coach G if you are interested in helping out. You can commit to only one Sunday or all of them, whatever works in your schedule!

The schedule for the week is as follows:

Monday - Bus to Elm Creek leaving school at 3:45 and returning around 6:30pm. Rennet racers please turn in your waivers

Workout

Varsity/JV1 - L4 Skate intervals

JV2 - Try to ski non-stop for 30 minutes at a time, then you can rest for 5-10 mins, then ski another 30 minutes non-stop, another rest. This will help build your endurance as a skier. You can ski very slow!

Tuesday - Bus to Wirth leaving school at 3:10 and returning around 5:30

Workout

Varsity/JV1 - 90-120 minute easy, continuous classic ski

JV2 - Focus on V2 technique

Wednesday - Bus to Wirth leaving school at 3:10 and returning around 5:30

Workout

Varsity/JV1 - 90 minute classic ski with speed work.

Thursday -  Bus to Wirth leaving school at 3:10 and returning around 5:30

Workout

Varsity/JV1 - 60 minute easy ski for Rennet racers, 90 minutes for others not racing.

JV2 - Ski!

Friday - High School Rennet Race, bus leaves school at 4:30pm and will return to school around 8:30pm. See previous post for all the details. Racers will need to prep skis before we leave so come right down after school to the wax room for waxing and classic ski prep. You will need your classic skis to be cleaned, sanded and we will put on a base binder before we leave. Varsity skiers are all classic skiing, here is a link to the roster for the race, make sure you know what you're skiing. Let me know if you have questions.

Saturday - Long ski 2.5 hours, location and time TBD.
