Training & Announcements for Week of Dec. 16th-22nd

We have a classic ski race at Elm Creek this Tuesday. Make sure to see the race info page for details. The Varsity and JV1 race will be classic technique while the JV2 race will be skate technique. If you are not comfortable racing classic and are on JV1, please indicate your preference on the race signup form and you can race in the JV2 skate race. Signup for the race here ASAP!

Classic skis NEED TO BE CLEANED, PREPPED AND MARKED before the race on Tuesday. Make sure to clean up after yourself after. 

Other Announcements:

  • Once again, we’d like to thank everyone who helped out at and donated to our Ski-A-Thon! It was a huge success and the money is used to help meet our large bussing costs in a season where we are already getting a lot of great skiing in. 

  • Wednesday night is our Chipotle Fundraiser, so get some friends together and grab a meal at the Hopkins Chipotle location and they will be donating a portion of their profits to the team. YOU MUST BRING A FLYER WITH YOU! We will hand these out during practice this week. 

  • Friday is our Cub Foods bagging event from 4pm-8pm at the Saint Louis Park Westend Cub Foods. Info and signup here

  • We also still need some help at the Optimist Tree Lot through this Saturday. If you haven’t help out yet please lend a hand! Info and signup here

Monday - Skiers in grades 9-12 must attend a quick meeting at 3:10pm, the coach who runs our local MYSL youth ski league will be giving you a brief presentation. Then practice at School getting skis prepped for the race. See info above. 

Workout - Easy run outside or on track. 30 minutes and 4 strides after. Option to go ski on your own if you like, just remember to bring clean skis to the race. 

**After Practice: Booster Club Meeting in Lindbergh Center at 7pm. 

Tuesday - Classic race at Elm Creek. See info in race signup post about dismissal and things you need to be ready for the race. 

Wednesday - Bus to French Park, leaving school at 3:10pm, back around 5:30pm 

Workout - 60-90 minute skate ski at L1. Work on transitions up and over hills, V1 uphill transitioning into V2 after and carrying speed.

**After Practice: Chipotle Night at Hopkins Location, bring a flyer with you. 

Thursday - Bus to Carver Park. We need to leave ASAP so change quick and get on the bus. We will shoot to leave at 3:05pm, back around 5:30pm. 

Workout: Skate interval workout for Varsity and interested JV

Friday  - No bus, meet at Theodore Wirth at 3:30pm. 

Workout: Easy ski choice technique. 

**After school: Cub Foods Bagging Event 4-8pm - If you are volunteering, you are not expected to be at practice. 

Weekend: Saturday practice TBD

If you are traveling, try to get out for a run or a ski and do some strength work, especially core work (Planks, V-Ups, Mountain Climbers, Crunches, Leg Raises). The more skiing you can get in over break means the better shape you will be in for ski camp and the important races after break. It also means you will be more hungry for all of the food! If you are out of town over break with no access to snow, try to get out for a run both days.
